Packing Your Art

I feel so honoured and privileged when someone chooses a piece of my work for their home. Especially when they purchase it online, because there’s a great deal of trust involved. Trust that the painting will look as good in person as it does in the pictures (honestly, due to the limitations of photography, usually they look better in person). And trust that the painting will arrive in tiptop condition.

Just quietly, it is a bit nerve-wracking this end too because if anything were to happen to the artwork in transit, I simply cannot make another one exactly the same. Each piece is truly one-of-a-kind, and I don’t sell reproduction prints. SO, the packaging is super important.

Each work comes with a handwritten thank you note, in one of my handmade ArtCards, and a Certificate of Authenticity. Now the layers:

  1. Compostable non-stick paper

  2. Recycled/recyclable brown craft paper fixed with compostable paper tape

  3. Three layers of bubble wrap (required for insurance purposes, I use salvaged wrap only)

  4. Two cardboard cartons remodelled to fit, with salvaged packing paper stuffed firmly into any gaps

  5. More compostable paper tape to keep it all snug as a bug

  6. FRAGILE - please handle like eggs! is written in red marker all over the box (not shown here)

  7. Work is posted or couriered depending on size, with insurance

It takes a bit of time and care, but it’s worth the effort and becomes a bit of a farewell ceremony!
